How did you get started writing?

I was raised to be a ferocious reader. My mother always pushed us to read, and my greatest accomplishment was finishing Lord of the Rings in middle school. I dabbled a little during those years in short stories that were more like fan fiction of Little House on the Prairie, or Nancy Drew. But it wasn’t until I stepped inside my grade ten high school English class, taught by a poet near the end of his teaching career, that I realized I could be a writer. Little did I know his support and belief in me way back then would come to fruition nearly two decades later.

Fast forward twenty years…

About a year before writing There Once Were Stars I decided to start taking my writing career seriously. I joined my local writer’s guild, started taking workshops, and I even locally self-published a middle grade novel, after working with an editor. I learned there was still so much I had to learn, and starting looking at writing classes, but before I could start an idea popped in my head. It was a thought about a girl lying in the woods, watching the stars glitter across the top of the dome that covered her city…a dome that was put there to protect mankind from a virus that broke out across the entire world…a virus that not only wiped out the infection but also the view of the stars in the skies…and so began There Once Were Stars.

Back in my Life is a story set in the beautiful cities of New York and Chicago. This story is not the typical and simple "boy meets girl, boy and girl get marry story." This story is a powerful story that shows how real and unselfish love truly looks like. The love between Ruby and Clyde is an amazing and genuine love that survived everything that came in between them—even the most painful experiences that destiny had planned for them.

During a college internship at a prestigious New York magazine, Ruby Sparks (a journalist graduate student from Chicago) meets Clyde Holt, (a fellow intern and a creative photography student from a London based college) whom from day one became Ruby's obsession and the new reason for her existence. After developing strong feelings for her emotionally unavailable friend, Ruby finds herself trapped in a whirlpool of emotions while trying to earn her friend's love. What Ruby doesn't know is that while she is looking for true love, Clyde's presence in her life came with a different purpose.

"Clyde, can I ask you a question?" asked Ruby while Clyde was about to open the door of her room to help her in.
"Yes, Ruby. You can ask me a question. But first, I need to get you in your room. You are too drunk to even stand for yourself," said Clyde managing to open the door with one hand while holding Ruby with his other arm, making sure that she didn't fall.
    "Do you like me?"
"Ruby, please stop. Now is not the time for that," said Clyde moving both of them inside of Ruby's room and closing the door behind them.
"Please, tell me, Clyde, do you like me? Because I like you, Clyde. I really do," said Ruby stumbling across the room still holding on to Clyde's arm.
"Ruby, please. Let's not talk about that now. I need to get you safe into your bed. Tomorrow, we can talk."
"No, Clyde, I want to talk now. I need to know if you like me. I love you, Clyde. I do. And I can't stand the way you look at me sometimes. The way you look at me tells me that you do like me, that you do feel something for me, but the way you act toward me tell me something else. I am confused, Clyde. I need to know what's on your mind or I will go crazy," yelled Ruby, unable to control the tears rolling down her cheeks while sitting at the edge of the bed. "Please, Clyde, I need to know. I need to know."
Grabbing his hair with both of his hands and walking nervously around the room, Clyde came to the conclusion that it was time to tell the truth. It was time to tell Ruby how he felt. It was time to open his heart to her and let her know how important she was for him.
"Ruby, yes, I do like you. In fact, I love you. I am madly in love with you. But this can't happen. I am a married man. I have to admit that I am not happy in my marriage. Actually, I don't even know if I want to be in that marriage anymore, because my wife...she cheated on me, Ruby. Yes, I found her in bed with another man. My wife was having sex with another man in our own bed. There you have it. That's the truth of my marriage. But you want to know why I can't be with you? Because I think she is expecting my child. And if that's the case, I need to be there for that kid, even if it means to stay with my her in a loveless fucking marriage," yelled Clyde at the same moment he sat next to Ruby on the edge of the bed and while covering his face with both of his hands to cover the tears that were rolling down his face. He had finally told her the truth. At least one truth, the one about his marriage. Unfortunately, the other truth—the one about his job—that one he couldn't tell. So he didn't.
After hearing Clyde tell her his story, his secret, she felt bad. She knew something was happening in Clyde's life, but she never imagined the magnitude of it. At first, she blamed everything on her being drunk and unable to understand correctly, but seeing Clyde's terrible expression on his face proved to her that she had heard correctly. Clyde had just told her the truth and she felt bad for him, so bad that even in her drunken stage she tried to provide support to him, even when all she wanted, at that moment, was for him to make love to her and to forget about the pain he was carrying around.
"I am sorry to hear that, Clyde. I never meant to—"
"Stop! Please, stop. I don't want to ruin the night with this," gently said Clyde finally looking at Ruby with his face covered with tears. "I wanted this night to be special for you. I wanted you to have fun."
"And I did, Clyde. I did. But I also needed to know the truth. I needed to know the reason of your empty-looking eyes. Now I know, and I want you to know that I love you with all my heart, Clyde. I will always do so. I hope that one day you can find that happiness that you deserve," said Ruby while bringing her friend close to her and giving him a tender hug. "Everything is going to be okay, Clyde. I promise."
What happened next was exactly what Clyde was trying to avoid since the moment he laid his eyes on Ruby. Having her there with him made him crave her touch even more, and without been able to control the furious passion that swamped his body, he grabbed her in his arms and with an uncontrollable desire, he started devouring her lips like he had never done to anyone before. In his mind, he knew that he needed to stop, but his body wasn't responding to none of his commands.
"Clyde, I can't believe I have you in my arms. Kiss me, please. Kiss me and never stop."
"Shhh, kiss me, Ruby. I want to taste you, I want to feel you."
"Made me yours, Clyde. I want to be yours."
"I am planning to, Ruby. I am planning to. Just kiss me, my dear and I promise you, I will make you mine. All mine."
"I want to be yours, Clyde. I want to make you forget. Use my body to forget, Clyde, and I promise you that when we wake up tomorrow, things will be different. I promise you, my love. Make me yours. I want to feel you inside of me. That's all I have been thinking about since the first moment I met you."
"Shhhh! Stop talking and enjoy the moment. Let the future take its course. But promise me that whatever happens between us tonight, you will never forget me. Promise me, Ruby. Promise me."
"I promise you, Clyde. I will never forget you. You will always be in my heart. But please make me yours. I can't wait any longer, Clyde. Make me yours, I beg you."
    So he did.

I have been writing for pleasure for the past couple of years, but this is the first time I do a book tour so I am very excited for it. Writing is my passion, and I enjoy using real-life stories as the basis for my novels, but giving them a little twist to make them more melodramatic and breath-taking. I am also the author of Pamela's Confessions and Confesiones del Alma. I currently live in Florida with my husband and three children.

Chapter 2: Part I* * * Symone * * *
Cornered by two Polars with their guns aimed, I shuddered. Was I about to meet my maker? The facility rocked while the lights flashed one last time before they went black. I dove to the ground and got off several rounds from my laser in the direction of my enemy. I was shooting blind, but I didn’t want them to ax me first. Silently, I thanked the Surpass for saving my life.
Darkness surrounded me. I clicked the light on my waist holster just in time to see the group vanish. Polars fired at them, only hitting thin air. My eyes felt like they were going to pop out of their sockets. I gasped when someone yanked me to the side and covered my mouth.
Solace filled me when Nile whispered, “Relax, it’s me. I saw you weren’t going to make it. I broke formation to come after you.”
Nile would risk his life for me? My heart expanded. This Kadanan truly cared about others. He wasn’t just about arrogance and jokes. There was another part of Nile that I was now curious about. He tugged my arm and pulled me into a room. It looked like some sort of electrical closet.
“Kill the lights on your holster,” he told me.
We both did and it was almost pitch-black. I tried to slow down my erratic breathing. We spoke in hushed voices.
“Do you think they will find us?” I asked.
“With the lights out, we should be okay until help comes.”
“Yeah. Kadeem will come back for us once they see we’re missing.” This small room veiled in darkness made my anxiety spike. I heard a noise and fumbled closer to Nile. In the process, I stepped on his foot. He grunted.
“You’re a lot heavier than you look.”
I scowled and moved away from him. But he grabbed me, wrapping his arms around my waist. I trembled uncontrollably; his arms were a comfort.
“I’m only joking,” Nile whispered. “Your shape is perfect … gorgeous. I wanted to lighten the mood because I know you’re frightened.”

Thankfully, it was dark, so he couldn’t see my blush. His presence lessened my anxiety; I had to admit. My shoulders relaxed slightly.
Nile held me tightly with one arm and attempted to get a signal on his telecom with the other. “Damn it! Why am I even bothering? All electric equipment will be dead for the next eleven hours. The only things that will work are the ones which are Gamma-cell operated, like the beams on our holsters and time bands.”
“Can you read my mind?”
“No, I can’t right now. And I’ve had difficulty reading your mind, period.” I sighed, relieved. “Why?”
“Because you said that you know I’m frightened.”
“That was written on your face. Your body is so tense.”
“Aren’t you scared?”
He was quiet for a moment and then said, “I’m trying to be brave for you.” I could appreciate a man who didn’t always have to pretend to be macho.
“Thanks for coming after me.”
“I would never leave you to fend for yourself.”
“You can be sweet when you want to.”
“Don’t tell anyone.”
We were standing by a wall. I leaned against his chest. His fragrance was soothing. He smelled of sunshine and cinnamon. It was very opaque, but I could almost sense his lips next to mine. You couldn’t have told me earlier I’d be cradled in Nile’s arms. I didn’t dwell on our lips about to touch; another noise made me whimper.

Suddenly, the area all around her began to glow, as if some sinister light was slowly coming to life. Thin pine and tupelo trunks were painted in a fiery red light, bright enough that each tree cast a bloody shadow. The creature was near. She ran left, thinking about her family and blinking away stinging hot tears. She hoped to see them again. She hoped to tell her husband and her daughter how much she loved them both. Her body, numb, expected death at any moment but she refused to give in. Ahead, she could see an end to the forest. And something else . . .
A fence! An old fence whose links were being pulled earthward by heavy vines with thick stalks and fat, crescent-shaped leaves. And beyond the fence: a dim pool of white light illuminated a squat building at the far edge of a barren lot. The building must be an emergency supply depot, no doubt running solely on stored energy from the solar panels attached to the roof, slanted up at the sky. The depot would contain emergency equipment and maybe some kind of weapon. It would have a communication system, too.
She could jump the fence. She could take one step on the constrained chain links and reach the top and hop over. She could reach the building. She could survive. She’d carried a child in her womb for nine months, seven days and an additional fifteen excruciating hours of labor. Her back had endured. Her legs had endured. This pain she felt in her shins now? It was nothing. It was an annoyance.
She could do this. She could send a warning.

I received my MFA in fiction writing from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. I've had over a dozen short stories published, but my main focus now is Young Adult books. My previous series, The Grimm Chronicles, is an award-winning (really!) fantasy adventure series about a hero who must vanquish the monsters of Grimm's Fairy Tales.

My newest series is The Earth-X Chronicles, a YA sci-fi adventure that spans time and space. Alien ghosts, backstabbing clans, and mysterious keepers of knowledge all conspire to make this an entertaining series! I'm so excited about it that I just swallowed my gum!

The brilliant adventure continues! You definitely want to read the first book first, as this sequel picks up right where it left off. I am completely awed by this series, and this second book is as good as the first one! With all new characters, the intrigue keeps rolling out and the complexity of all the characters is just stunning! The storyline is absolutely original and unique, the dialogue is full and rounded and the descriptions of everything is point on and flawless! I just can't get over how intricate this story is! The emotions you feel for the characters and situations are so realistic and palpable they could be real people. I would definitely rate this series as some of the best books that I have ever read and I would recommend them to everybody- young or old! They desperately need to make these into movies- it'd be a chart-topping hit!

A butterfly darts across the pond, fluttering its wings gently before settling on a lily pad. I study the lawn around me and see an ant marching past. There is a spider perched on a weed growing out of the grass next to me.The spider is beige, has a larger than normal head and thick legs. A shriek escapes my
lips at what I see on closer inspection. This isn’t an ordinary spider at all. Its body is spiderlike but its four upper legs look like human arms with hands. Its four lower legs look like human legs
with feet. Then there’s its face—its teensy face is that of a little boy whose jaw is dropped wide in shock at seeing me. Probably just as much as mine is at seeing him.

What a unique book! This intriguing book is like an alternative trip into a Wonderland with alternate realities and a  lot of  twists! The storyline is absolutely original and creative, the dialogue was perfect and the characters are complex with palpable emotions! I was absolutely gripped by this story from the very beginning and was along for the ride the whole way! There are absolutely no boring parts- in fact there's quite a few twist and gets more intriguing as the book goes on! I absolutely enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to check out the second book in this series! Very well written!

My name is Michael Seidelman.  I was born in Vancouver, BC Canada where I continue to reside. When I was growing up, my passions were reading, watching movies, nature and creative writing. Not much has changed since then. In high school when I had an opportunity to write short stories in class, I relished reading them out loud to my classmates who would gasp at the unexpected twists and applaud when I was done. I took several creative writing classes and have continued writing over the years while working in Interactive Marketing.

About two years ago, I decided to take some time off to focus on my writing and work on a Young Adult trilogy. The first book in The Garden of Syn series – No One Dies in the Garden of Syn – will be released on April 26th. Meanwhile, I am working hard on the second and third books in the series.
Getting up every morning and sitting down to create new characters and bring new worlds to life is the most fulfilling job I have ever had. Beyond the trilogy, I have many ideas plotted out and I look forward to sharing them all with the world!

This was a nicely charming book! It reads somewhat like a Regency romance, however there's moments where you are reminded it's a modern story. The storyline is intriguing, the dialogue was rich, and the romance was sweet and not too hot. While not as much as I expected, there's still an underlying mysterious supernatural element threaded throughout the whole story with bits being revealed slowly over time. With a cat and mouse relationship that has small fireballs of smoldering attraction, I was completely caught up in this lovely, charming story! I was left with quite a cliffhanger that leaves me aching to read the second book to see what happens next!
