Using the empty service hallways, he took a direct path to his sister. He was almost to the latte shop when he was caught off guard by a pair of dainty hands wrapping around his forearm and pulling him through the back door of a busy restaurant kitchen.
He only caught a glimpse of the stunning woman with long blonde curly hair before she yanked his head down. When she licked the seam of his mouth, he naturally opened for her.
Then he closed his eyes in ecstasy, tasting the sugary sweet glaze of red berries coating her lips. He didn’t care what part of her he griped, as he pulled her body to his.
She placed a hand on his hip to steady herself, and her scent of wild apple blossoms sent possessive desires through him. A new sense of joy rushed inside his soul as his inner voice chanted, Mine! Mine! Mine!
He growled with displeasure when she took her candy-flavored lips away.
Her dazzling blue gaze met his. “Thanks, Lumberjack. I so needed that.” She used the nickname of the Grizzly Mountain Wolvens, who chose to live in the woods to be closer to their ancestors, the wolves.
She needed that? He needed her…forever. Malachi was sure he’d just found his mate.
She gave him a wink and took a couple of steps back from him.
He frowned, not wanting her to leave his side.
When he reached for her to bring her back into his embrace—where she belonged—he stumbled. His legs suddenly felt like lead.
He grabbed for the nearest dish rack for support. Each time he blinked, the lids of his eyes got heavier. Then he dropped to the floor.
His clouded mind tried to commit all the details of his mate to memory. Her almond-shaped blue eyes were so expressive, and her upper lip was thinner than the bottom.
His gaze traveled down the length of her body, noting the indent in her waistline that fanned out to the kind of hips a male could latch onto while mating.
She knelt at his side. “Sorry, Lumberjack.”

This was a fun, hot read! With a unique storyline, you're immediately thrown into an all new dystopian/sci-fi world consisting of male Wolvens and humans that is easily described in the first bit of the book.. It starts off with a heady rush of action and just keeps on going for the entire ride! The characters were very complex, each with their own unique personalities and background stories that made them into well-rounded beings. The romance was steamy with plenty of intrigue and hotness, yet was kept classy where it wasn't virtual porn like some other books out there nowadays. I completely enjoyed this somewhat short read and would recommend it to anybody who likes PNR , sci-fi, dystopian or action novels!

Electra Gajdos is from Winnemucca, Nevada and currently lives in West Michigan. She is a wife and the mother of two beautiful genius children. (Maybe not true geniuses, but a mother is always partial to her kids.) She won’t bore you with her childhood love of all things sci-fi and the game of chess. But she will let you know she once called the police to save a man from jumping off a three-story building. What she didn’t know was the man was a mannequin and part of an advertisement. No lie! Thankfully, it gave the police officer a good laugh for the night. This is just one her many good deeds gone wonky, and she looks forward to sharing more of them with you.

Spartan Forum, 2:15 a.m.
New thread, topic: Spartan Rescue Mission
@SpartanSurvived:
ATTN: All members of the Starveil Rebellion. Many of you have heard that Captain Matt Spartan, commander of the Star Freighter Elysium, has been reported missing in action. Surveillance footage from the final escape pod shows the Elysium being destroyed, but in the last hours, there have been multiple reports of an unidentified transceiver messaging in the Omega Quadrant.
We need you, soldiers. Spartan needs you. Look for evidence. Find reports, word-of-mouth testimony, footage if you can. If we have any hope of finding Spartan alive, it will come down to your ingenuity and determination. This rescue message must spread far and wide. Post your findings on all fandom platforms using the hashtag: #SpartanSurvived
THIS IS YOUR CALL TO ACTION.
@SpartanSurvived
Liv chewed her lower lip, rereading the text once and again. Leaving a post like this on one of the busiest Starveil forums was a call to arms. It was so outrageous - so arrogant - she couldn't doubt the potential for ridicule. Trolls loved tearing apart things like this. And if they decided to start flaming her post, they'd burn her idea down to the ground. But if she didn't post it, she'd never know.
Her fingers drummed on the armrest. Post or not. That was the big question.
Liv lifted her phone, scrolling through her texts. There was one from Joanne. It had arrived while she was out with Xander.
@Joeswoes: So upset over that stupid ending, Liv. How do you get over losing a character you love? Spartan's REAL to me. He's my baby, you know? :(
Liv did know. He was her baby too. He was everyone's! And by killing the character off they'd wounded an entire community of fans. She reread Joe's text, her finger hovering over reply for a long moment.
She set the phone down again.
Her gaze darted back to the computer screen. THIS IS YOUR CALL TO ACTION. If she posted this, it needed to be real. She needed people to believe Spartan could come back. They needed to trust that he'd made it out of the ship. It couldn't just be fangirl to fangirl, writing Starveil AU's that never really happened. This would be the guerrilla warfare of character ships. The fans would have to reweave the details they had into a new explanation of those last seconds of film. They'd take no prisoners, leave no wounded fans behind. But, as in any war, that meant the intel behind the revolution had to stay secret for as long as possible.
Fandom had to believe.
Liv released her breath, heart beating in her temple. It's up to you to make your happy ending.
She hit post.

The Inspiration for All the Feels

“Irked fans produce fanfic like irritated oysters produce pearls.”
Jacqueline Lichtenberg in Fic by Anne Jamison

All the Feels is a story that started a long time ago. Before you were in college or graduated high school. Before you were born even. In fact, it started before your great-great-grandparents were born… when author Arthur Conan Doyle decided he’d had enough of the character of Sherlock Holmes and decided to do away with him in “The Adventure of the Final Problem” (Strand Magazine, 1893).
Fans of the series were so furious with Sherlock’s death that they took action against the author, writing letters to both Arthur Conan Doyle and to the newspapers of the day. Shocked by the upheaval his writing had created, Doyle finally acquiesced and brought Sherlock Holmes back from the dead with the story “The Adventure of the Empty House” (1903). This long-ago fan-base is, in fact, one part of the inspiration for All the Feels.
The second part of that inspiration is my friend, E, who goes by the twitter username @CoulsonLives, and who—much like Sherlock fans of the previous century—was horrified by the untimely death of Agent Coulson in The Avengers movie. Like her Sherlockian predecessors, she was certain that Agent Coulson must have survived. Rather than writing letters, however, she started an online revolution of fic-writing, posting, and vidding, which eventually resulted in Agents of Shield. The fans interest in this character inspired Marvel to make it real.
While All the Feels doesn’t tell either of these stories, it embraces elements of both. @CoulsonLives’ ability to bring fandom together combined with the Sherlock Holmes fandoms force of will, getting the author to redact the death of his most famous character. Liv and Xander are all of us fangirls and #SpartanSurvived is the battle cry to make fandom our own.

Grace moved over to the grass and began to play fetch with Hank. She glanced to Evan who was surrounded by rambunctious children who were fighting for his attention. They asked him questions and he raptly answered. They asked to see his blaster and they took turns passing it around. He was so comfortable and at ease with them, as if they made his job seem completely worth it. She hadn’t thought it of him, but Evan Matthews loved being around kids.
Jake opened his gift from Evan with permission from his mom and everyone was in admiration as he received his own replica blaster from the set. There was also an autographed photo of the entire cast included. Grace beamed and when their eyes locked, she felt her nerves shoot all through her body and straight to her core.
When Evan’s attention was dragged away by Jake, Grace felt a whoosh of relief. His gazes on her were getting way too intense. They were the type of stare a girl dreamed of being on the receiving end of. The type of look that only happened in romantic novels adapted into films. The way Mr. Darcy looked at Elizabeth Bennet, Colonel Brandon’s want of Marianne Dashwood, or Mr. Rochester’s powerful need for Jane Eyre. It wasn’t a good thing that she was comparing those gazes at all. It meant she was liking it way too much. She was beginning to like Evan too much.
She went inside to wash her hands before cake would be served. She observed herself in the mirror and saw her cheeks blushing just by thinking about the man outside who was making twenty kids extremely happy. He was great with kids. So what? Lots of guys were great with kids. So what that he was funny and romance novel handsome? Grace had met plenty of men who fit the criteria of perfection before. It didn’t mean that they were the right guy for her. And she wasn’t sure Evan was either. Get yourself together, Grace. She exited the restroom and yelped as two hands yanked her aside, enclosing her against the wall.
“Hi, Gracie.” Evan grinned with a playful mischief that made her belly flutter.
“Hello, Captain.” She placed her hands on his chest and played with the gear on his uniform. “You’re looking like you’re ready to save the world.” She gazed at his full lips and licked hers out of reflex.
A small groan escaped from his throat as he roamed her face. “So you met Hank, I see. He really likes you, Grace.” He cupped the back of her neck, staring at her with a need so passionate she couldn’t breathe.
“I…” She gulped, feeling the electricity tingle in her stomach all the way down between her legs. “I like him too.”
“Do you?” His eyebrow raised in a lively gesture. “Do you like me?”
“That’s still under review.”
Her breathing elevated as his thumb ran over her mouth. She felt her body responding to his as he pressed up against her. An uncontrollable whimper exited her and she couldn’t stop what was already in motion. Even if she wanted to, the pull was too strong, his masculine hands touching her was earth-shattering. Every caress from him felt like she was an instrument he knew how to play with expertise.
“Let me help you decide then.”

The world disappears. I’m floating, suspended in night, portals shining all around me like distant stars in foreign constellations. I find the one to Fidanya with hardly a thought. The spider-silk path between us beams bright and strong. It has obviously been traveled by more than a few mages recently. And another one about to come in after me, no doubt.
Tightening my focus, I lean forward. The magic of the portal grips me at once, pulling me along until I’m spinning through a vortex of flickering lights — doorways and their pathways racing by, perhaps even other travelers. I’ve experienced this rush before, a lifetime ago when Blackflame sent Kol and his retinue through a portal to their home. Then, it shimmered past me and I barely caught more than a flash of dizzying lights.
Now, though, I need to concentrate. The mage will likely have entered behind me. Like me, he’ll have identified which path was last used. The moment after I step out of the portal, he’ll follow me out, and I won’t be ready to defend myself. Not against a warrior trained to attack. I need to escape him before then.
As I careen forward, I widen my focus, pressing outward with my mage senses. Three more paths cross mine before my destination. The first hurtles past before I can assess it. The second is bright and shiny — but the last, to my left, glimmers pink so faintly I almost miss it. I swerve onto it with a magic-fueled leap that nearly sends me flying into darkness, the light around me devolving into tangled strands that pull at my body. My bones slam against the sack of my skin as if they might rip through.
I scream into the void, pain obliterating my concentration. Black spots streak across my vision. This is why portals are dangerous. I can feel myself sliding, the route as slippery in my mind’s grasp as fine thread.
No. I cling hard to the portal with its ancient path, push back with all my force, ignore the pain, staring wide-eyed past the darkness that blurs my sight. For a single agonizing moment, I teeter on the edge of a nightmare precipice. Then the momentum of my new direction sucks me in, steadying me as it pulls me forward into a new vortex of light twisting around me.
The open portal flashes before me. With a gasp of relief, I tumble through it. But there’s no city on the other side of this portal, no crowds to lose myself in or alleys to flee down. There is only sun and dust and the broken walls of a forgotten fortress, silent as a tomb.

I loved this book even more than the first one- if that's even possible! This series is seriously absolutely incredible and definitely scores in my top 5 books of all time! The writing was just amazingly good! The storyline is completely captivating and original, the characters complex and intricate, and the action was just non-stop with tons of plot twists thrown in. The intricate details she puts into everything were flawless and the take on the world of the supernatural was refreshing and new, not some of the same old played out cliches that most people stick to. The adventure was a delight to partake in and the characters each had their own unique personalities and emotions that defined them.I was completely captivated and found myself unable to tear myself away from the pages of this amazing series! Definitely chart-toppers!!

OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES:

Wow! This book was an absolutely awesome delight to read! It started off with a bang and had me completely captivated all throughout! The writing was just phenomenally great with an absorbing, original storyline and intricate details. The characters were incredibly detailed with unique personalities and complex emotions that had me feeling right along beside them. I absolutely loved the main character Hitomi and her quirky personality! This book is a completely new take on vampires and magic that almost deserves it's own genre. I completely loved this book an was eagerly racing to pick up the second book in this series!

I heard a low whistle, and realized I’d been staring at Dave’s backside while he retreated. I looked in the direction of the whistle.
Scarlett’s eyebrows were raised in appreciation and she was focused on Dave, not me. “Is that your plumber?”
“That’s my plumber.”
“Nice.” She sat down in the seat next to me. “Did you get his number?”
“Scarlett!”
“Oh right. You already have his number. He’s your plumber. Well, that makes it easy.”
“Easy? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I saw you staring at his butt. You know exactly what I’m talking about.”
“He’s my plumber!” I protested.
“So? It’s not like a doctor-patient confidentiality thing. He’s looked at your drains. Big deal.”
“But—”
“But?” Scarlett crossed her arms and gave me a stern look.
I blinked, flustered. “He’s my plumber.”
“Yes, Cate. He’s your plumber. What’s the problem?”
“He’s not my type,” I said quietly.
Scarlett leaned in, arms still crossed, and waited until I met her dark eyes. “He’s not on your list, is he?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I shot back, alarmed.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about. You’re very specific about your type.”
“So?” I wasn’t going to go the effort to deny it. Scarlett could be exhausting when she put her mind to something.
She eased back into her seat and uncrossed her arms, satisfied with my reluctant honesty. “Maybe you could loosen up a bit.”
“And go out with a plumber?” I said, not trying to hide the disbelief in my voice.
Scarlett placed her hands on her cheeks in mock shock. “Oh my God. He uses his hands for living. How uncouth.” Her expression turned sly. “In my experience, men who are good with their hands are good in other areas.”
“Scarlett! What would John think?”
She snickered shamelessly. “He doesn’t care, because he knows I eat at home.”
I shut my mouth, silenced once again by my friend’s brazenness.
She shrugged. “Seriously. He was hot.”
“There’s a lot more to a successful and rewarding relationship than chemistry,” I replied primly.
She grinned at me. “Chemistry is a good place to start though.”
“Fine. Chemistry is important,” I allowed, “but there’s still a lot more to it than that.”
“And I’m sure you’ve got it listed and color-coded in a spreadsheet somewhere, don’t you?”

Kiki Nichols might not survive music camp.

She’s put her TV-loving, nerdy self aside for one summer to prove she’s got what it takes: she can be cool enough to make friends, she can earn that music scholarship, and she can get into Krause University’s music program.

Except camp has rigid conduct rules—which means her thrilling late-night jam session with the hot drummer can’t happen again, even though they love all the same TV shows, and fifteen minutes making music with him meant more than every aria she’s ever sung.

But when someone starts snitching on rule breakers and getting them kicked out, music camp turns into survival of the fittest. If Kiki’s going to get that scholarship, her chance to make true friends—and her chance with the drummer guy—might cost her the future she wants more than anything.

From the music app on my phone, Ani DiFranco belts out a choice insult just as Brie bursts through my dorm room door, crosses the room, and plops a giant cardboard box on the other bed.
“I guess we’re roommates,” she says. There were a bunch of boxes in the room when I arrived, and I wondered who they belonged to. I suppose that mystery is solved.
I scramble to stop Ani from singing anything else we both might regret later and I look up just in time to see Seth Banks crossing the threshold into my dorm room, carrying another larger, heavier box over to Brie’s side.
“Hi,” he says. “Kiki, right?” He knows my name. Seth Banks somehow knows my name.
I nod, and sneak a glance at the mirror on the wall next to my bed, assessing myself against the two model-caliber people in my dorm room. I’m still wearing the cat dress. My frizzy hair is up in a messy bun, but the effect actually works with my blue-plastic glasses. I look eccentric, but artsy, which may not be the best look of all time but it is, in fact, a look.
(You’re probably wondering who my celebrity twin is. Well, there aren’t a lot of women in pop culture who have my body type, i.e. dumpy. I’m too fat to be thin and too thin to be fat. Head-wise, I have the glasses and mouse-like features of Mary Katherine Gallagher from Saturday Night Live with hair like Hermione before someone gave her hot oil help between the second and third movies.)

Brie cocks an eyebrow at me and tucks her bottom lip under her top teeth as she picks up my backpack and drops it on the ground with a perfunctory thud. I had tossed it onto the blue papa-san chair in the middle of our room after I got back from the auditions. “That’s my chair,” she says. “My. Chair.” And then she proceeds to place a six-pack of Diet Coke into the fridge—My. Fridge.—because apparently that’s how fairness works.

“The purrfect sleuthy duo”* is back, and this time murder hits close to home for Nora Charles and her partner Nick, a stealthy little feline gumshoe groomed to solve a shocking crime.
Picture
Nick trotted along beside me as we made our way deeper into the warehouse. Suddenly, he froze, tail upright, the hairs puffed and fluffed out like a giant fan.

“What’s wrong?” I whispered, even though I knew he couldn’t answer. We stood in silence for a moment, and suddenly, I did hear something. A very faint sound, from far away . . . like a door closing.

“Come on,” I hissed. I lifted my head, sniffed at the air. It smelled pretty stale, but there was another scent, cigarette smoke. I racked my brain, trying to remember if I’d seen either Julia or Samms smoking.

Nick’s tail swished, and he pawed at arrows painted on the ground. He trotted ahead of me at a brisk pace, and I fell into step. We followed the painted arrows along a white-tiled hallway down to a door with a shade pulled all the way down. A sign placed haphazardly in the window proclaimed it CLOSED.

I tried the door, which seemed to be stuck. I looked at the doorframe, which appeared to be less than sturdy, and checked it for alarm wires. Seeing none, I raised my leg and gave the door a swift, hard kick. It clicked open an inch, and I pushed it all the way open. We walked into a tiny office not much bigger than a postage stamp. A large metal desk and battered file cabinet took up the majority of the space. Another door at the far end stood partway open. Nick suddenly tensed, and I saw the hairs on his back rise. His tail fluffed out, and he started to growl, deep in his throat.

I frowned. “What’s wrong? What do you sense?”

Nick reared up on his hind legs and then shot through the partially open door. I had no choice but to follow. The room I now found myself in appeared to be a slightly larger version of the previous office. Nick crouched in front of a large metal desk, and as I entered, he shifted his body slightly. I caught a glimpse of two feet, very still, shod in the pair of eggplant Louboutins I’d admired earlier in the evening.

“Oh crud,” I cried. “Please tell me that’s not what I think it is.” I walked around Nick and peeped around the edge of the desk. I saw a twisted figure in a white raincoat bunched up around shapely legs, a tumble of dark hair covering its face, the neck bent at an unnatural angle.

“Shoot,” I said.

“MA-ROW!” Nick yowled.

I heard a sound behind me as Nick dived under a nearby chair. My heart started to beat wildly in my chest. The last time he’d pulled something like that I’d been caught next to a dead body and hauled off to the police station. His fat rear had barely wiggled out of sight before the door slammed back and I found myself looking first down the barrel of a .45 and then, as I raised my gaze, at the grim, unsmiling face of Detective Leroy Samms. He looked at me, then at the feet, then back to me again. He lowered his arm, slipped his gun back into his shoulder holster. “Well, well. Look what the cat dragged in.”

I responded almost automatically. “He didn’t drag me. I walked in on my own.”

One eyebrow quirked. “Pardon? It’s an expression, Nora.”

“Oh, sure. I knew that.” The queasy sensation in my stomach was getting stronger, and I really felt like gagging. I started to push past Samms, but his strong fingers reached out and encircled my elbow in a grip of steel.

“No need to run off.”

I pressed my palm against my cheek. “I—I’m not. I just felt a little . . . squeamish.”

“Of course you do,” he said, still not cracking a smile. “I’ve got some Pepto back at the station. Fix you right up. Then we’re going to have a chat, you and I.” His grip on my elbow tightened. “Ms. Charles, you’ve got some explaining to do.”

A socialite by chance not by choice, Gen runs away to a charming small town to reinvent herself as the girl-next-door and falls in love under false pretenses.
Despite having been raised by a man-eating, social-climbing mother, Genevieve Garnier is a hopeless romantic. She has successfully parlayed her sentimental nature into a prestigious Manhattan wedding planning business, but cannot make it down the aisle herself.

As another hectic wedding season winds down, Gen finds herself burned out and at a crossroads in life. She retreats to the charming Hudson Valley town of Heritage View to reinvent herself as girl-next-door “Jane”, complete with a charming cottage and apple pies baking in the oven. Gen is determined to simplify her life in Heritage View and keep her wedding business humming, without letting the two worlds collide. Michael Carlisle waltzes in and turns her plans upside down.

Michael is smart and successful, with enough guarded-heart intensity and magnetism to curl any woman’s toes. He stays out of the social fray in Manhattan, so he doesn’t recognize Jane as socialite wedding planner Genevieve. It’s a good thing, because he hates pampered socialites and avoids them nearly as much as he avoids girl-next-door types. That leaves our heroine 0-for-2. To make matters worse, it turns out that Michael is dear friends with the Hunter family, “Jane’s” new best friends. He has relationship baggage of his own to battle, but Michael can’t seem to stay away from Jane.

Will they repeat the mistakes of the past?

“The way you’re wielding that wooden spoon, I can see that I’ve startled you.” He held his hands up in mock surrender, the twinkle in his eyes making way for a smile that completely spoiled his attempt at appearing contrite. “I mean no harm. You have no cause to spoon me to death.” He was teasing her openly now, and Jane stifled the unwelcome romantic image that he’d just unwittingly conjured.
“Oh, I’m so sorry.” With a nervous chuckle, she lowered the spoon she was still unconsciously grasping. “Force of habit, I’m afraid. I’m from the city.” Why had she told him that? Wasn’t incognito her goal? Clearly, the FBI wouldn’t be soliciting her for undercover work anytime soon. She smoothed her disheveled apron moaning internally at the cheesy move in light of his obvious sophistication. Buck up, camper, you are acting like a freshman in high school.
“Ah, yes. I should have recognized the paranoia and aggression. Comes with the territory, huh? Whereabouts?”
At her blank expression, he prompted, “Where are you from?”
“Where? Err, New York.” So much for witty repartee. Good grief. Really, Gen?
His smile was openly curious and more than a hint amused, the effect so potent as to be more than a bit butterfly inducing. Her brain sounded an alarm of recognition. Her heart began to sink. Not particularly original, but clichéd or not, butterflies in her stomach were her own early-warning system. Butterflies in the stomach were not technologically advanced and rather akin to plucking petals from a daisy in sophistication but nevertheless, flawlessly accurate at predicting trouble of the masculine variety. Did women still swoon nowadays? Swooning was like fainting, right? She’d have to remember to look it up. Gen had read about swooning women a million times, but this was the first time in her life she had understood the impulse.
“Yeah, the city.” He winked at her. “I think we’ve established that.”
“I—”
“Let’s start over.” He moved forward a step and held out his hand to her. “Hi, Jane. I’m Michael.”

Annie Stiles was practically born with a book in her hand, but the writing came later. A daydreamer by nature, Annie always secretly wanted to be a romance novelist. It wasn’t until her youngest child started kindergarten that she buckled down and turned that dream into reality. She is fascinated by characters on the page and in real life, and talks with her hands so much that people have been known to duck.
When not on her laptop, she likes to putter in her garden. Annie lives in the beautiful Capital-Saratoga region of New York State with her college sweetheart husband and their two children. They are all owned by two cats.

Annie writes satisfying, character-driven contemporary romance.

Rose-colored glasses are standard issue.

Annie, congrats on your debut sweet, contemporary romance, A MATCH MADE INHERITAGE VIEW.  You’ve said that Heritage View is a fictitious town, loosely based on the area where you grew up. Can you tell us a little bit about how that came to be?

I grew up in the picturesque Hudson Valley of New York State. It’s an area that is near and dear to my heart. The region is rich with history and boasts lots of interesting, quirky towns that have great heritage and character. The tone can be quite varied, I think due to the influence of New York City blending with the flavors of New England and Upstate New York. They all come together in a really special way. That eclectic quality made it perfect for the creation of a fictitious town that I’ve begun to populate with wonderful characters. The setting has become one of the characters and I’m looking forward to sharing and exploring more of Heritage View as the series progresses.

Did you always want to write romance?

Yes and no. I’d say it was more of a daydream because I had a whimsical, fantasy idea of what that meant. I somehow saw it as separate from real life and college, jobs, getting married, and buying a house. It was a charming wish or a secret that I carried around in a little pocket in my heart labeled “maybe someday”. I joined RWA several years ago, not really understanding what it was all about. I started a book that was a version of what this one would later become. I got about ten minutes into it and then we started our family and that was that...or so I thought. I can’t explain it, but I wasn’t ready. After our youngest child started school, something changed and I suddenly felt ready. I sat down and wrote the book fairly quickly from scratch. It felt like a switch had been flipped and my heart was ready. I took the dream out of my pocket, dusted it off, and I’m on my way. It’s been a pleasure, and I’m very fortunate that my first novel has been published.

When you are not writing, and you have a free moment to read, what do you like to pick up?

Hmm. I am pretty devoted to the romance genre, though I also enjoy more book-club type fiction and historical fiction, as long as it isn’t too angsty. I don’t do scary movies or scary books. At this stage of life with young kids and hectic days, I tend to read right before bed. I’m usually half-asleep and I want to relax and be entertained. I love historical romance. Right now, Eloisa James and Lisa Kleypas are auto-buys for me. They are deliciously escapist and entertaining reads, but the writing is really sharp, intelligent, and crisp. I have a huge TBR pile, but don’t we all? I’m the only person I know who hasn’t read any J.D. Robb books and I’m looking forward to starting them soon. For comforting, atmospheric books, Rosamund Pilcher and Marcia Willett are fantastic. I go through phases and I’m prone to glomming. I’m trying to organize my “read/to-read” list on Goodreads now. So much better than little scraps of paper all over the house.

What type of audience is best for A MATCH MADE IN HERITAGE VIEW?

Can I say mushy people? No? How about sentimental people? The optimistic dreamers, looking for a bit of a cozy, relaxing way to spend an afternoon. It isn’t real life per se, it’s life the way you might wish it could be. The houses are bit quainter, the characters are a bit more charming, the problems are a bit easier to solve than in real life. It is your favorite squishy chair, or a chat with that old friend who knows you so well. It is an ideal story for the beach or lazing by the pool this summer.

What are you working on next?

I’ve finished Book 2 in the series and I’m polishing it now to submit to my editor. I’ll start Book 3 this summer.

Thank you for sitting down with us!

“Do you have any plans for your unexpectedly free weekend?” Alexis asked as she perused the menu.
Leah’s eyes narrowed on her friend. Alexis Morgan might be the queen of poker face, but Leah had known Alexis for close to a decade now. She knew when she was being handled, and right now, Alexis was definitely working up to something.
Instead of answering the question, Leah took a sip of her mimosa and waited. When Alexis’s brown eyes flicked up to hers, Leah merely lifted her brows. Waited some more.
With a sigh, Alexis set the menu aside and folded both arms on the table, leaning toward Leah. “I need a favor.”
“Anything,” Leah said automatically, meaning it completely.
Her relationship with Alexis may have started as a business arrangement—they’d both arrived in the city ten years earlier with big dreams of pursuing their dream careers.
But somewhere along the way, Alexis and Leah had transitioned from sometimes business associates to friends. Alexis had been there for Leah when she’d needed her, and Leah fully intended to repay the favor any way she could.
“I need you to work the Preston wedding.”
Leah blinked. “The Preston wedding. As in, the wedding of the former First Daughter we were just talking about? The one this weekend?”
Alexis nodded.
Leah sat back, stunned. “Holy crap, Lex. That’s not really me doing you a favor, hon. More like the other way around. This would be the opportunity of a lifetime for me. For any photographer.”
“I know, but I still hate asking last minute like this. If it were up to me, I’d have recommended you from the very beginning, but Kylie’s college roommate and her husband are a two-person photographer team, and Kylie wanted to give the opportunity to her friend.”
“So what happened? They had a falling-out?”
Alexis shook her head. “They live in San Francisco and she’s a few months pregnant. There was some complication; she’s been put on bed rest. Nothing serious, just a precaution, but ergo . . . she’s certainly not going to be flying to New York any time soon, and certainly can’t be photographing a wedding.”
“Ugh. That sucks,” Leah said sympathetically.
Alexis smiled. “This is why I knew you were right for the job. You get it. You get people.”
Leah rolled her eyes. “You hardly have to sweet talk me into taking a job that’s likely to be the highest-profile wedding of my career.”
Alexis glanced down at her Bloody Mary, stirring a pickled green bean. “Well there is one tiny thing I haven’t mentioned.”
“Bring it.”
Alexis looked up. “It’s a huge wedding. One photographer’s not going to cut it.”
Leah waved her hand. “Oh please. My ego’s not so big I can’t handle a little teamwork. Who else you bringing in?”
Alexis bit her lip, and Leah tensed at the rare unease she saw on her usually confident friend’s face.
Alexis leaned forward and touched her arm. “Leah, you have to know how impossible it is to book one good photographer on short notice in June, much less two, and I’m counting myself lucky because two of the best happened to be available, but . . .”
“But what?” Leah asked, her heart pounding faster as she somehow knew what her friend was trying to say. Knew whose name Alexis was terrified to say.
Alexis’s gaze cut away from hers and fell somewhere over Leah’s shoulder, even as Leah felt the shiver of awareness that someone else had stepped into her personal space.
Alexis glared at the newcomer. “You’re early, Rhodes.”
Leah’s heart stopped, just for a moment. Slowly, she turned around and glanced up into the dark brown eyes of Jason Rhodes.
He pulled a toothpick from his mouth and gave her a slow, sexy once-over. “Hiya, Red. Long time.”
Leah could only shake her head. It had been a long time, but not nearly long enough.
Not only was he the one man on the planet she could absolutely, positively not work with.
He was the one man who Leah had let in close enough to break her heart.

Excerpt

Claire Holy Jesus sittin’ on his rainbow, does Matt look delicious. He looks so fucking manly, incredibly sexy and completely all consuming like I remember. When he first called out my name, I swear my ovaries perked up like the mothership had arrived to bring us to planet Gonna Get My Rocks Off! Fuckity fuck fuck. He’s actually here, and I know I’m in trouble. My kryptonite is facing me, his light brown eyes laced with flecks of mahogany. They rake over me, taking in my now wired body inch-by-inch. His gaze is heavy and painstakingly slow, igniting my skin with a warmth I’ve not experienced in a long time. God, I hope he likes what he sees. Wait, no. No, I don’t. In mere seconds, this man is inciting a frenzy of emotions that prove exactly why I wasn’t ready to see him yet, proving that I needed more time before this reunion, confirming that he can easily annihilate all of my best-laid plans, the ones my brain has worked overtime convincing my heart to make. I need more time to make proper preparations, to ensure my bridge troll is ready for battle, that he is stable enough to keep the drawbridge strategically locked in place, ready to withstand the blunt force that is Matt Bishop. Most of all, I want more time to practise the apology and then the time to actually apologize—to explain. Time to just tell him I’m sorry. Looking at him, feeling him, I realize I can’t risk more than that or I will be lost again. Unfortunately, none of what my brain wants is happening right now. He’s here. And from the moment I set eyes on Matt, all I want is him, anyway I can have him. Moving up from my neck, Matty whispers softly in my ear and my breath hitches: “Tell me, Claire, do you still taste sweet? Like sugar melting on my tongue, leaving that addicting-as-fuck strawberry ice cream taste running down my chin?” He tickles my memory, my throat forgetting how to swallow as he wets his tongue and moves it lightly over my earlobe, awakening the familiar pulse between my legs, the one that always builds with each of this man’s dirty words. “Christ, baby. You were so fucking good, my tongue licking up every single drop of juice that dripped from your hot tight cunt.” The timbre of his voice causes tingles to travel down my spine, the anticipation of where this is all going making my toes curl at the prospect. “I want to kiss you, Claire. Tell me it’s okay to kiss you.” “Jesus, Matt.” I want to sag against him. His filthy words make my knees weak. Matt squeezes my hips, pulling me flush to his strong body. Leaning in, he runs his mouth ever so softy along my neck before meeting my eyes again. I step out of his hold, needing to give myself a bit of distance. But instead, I find myself staring at him, unable to look beyond the man of my past, the one I can’t seem to let go. The same one for whom my heart thumps erratically in my chest, the same one I wish almost daily I’d kept, the same one I don’t know if I can keep. I can’t believe we’re back here. Matt’s beyond the man-pretty guy I remembered. His chiseled jaw is highlighted by more than a five o’clock shadow. His lush lips are full, with that pouty bottom one making me want to tug on it because it’s so tauntingly perfect. He’s fucking ripped, too—Adonic, if you will. His plain white-t-shirt strains over his incredible shoulders, his defined chest and toned biceps. The telltale marks of tight abs pull my gaze as I make my slow perusal, visibly eye-fucking the shit out of him. God, I like what I see. A lot. I want nothing more than to run my tongue along each dip and dive of this man’s body. Matty’s body was made for sin and I’d gladly volunteer as the sinner if it meant I’d get to repent at the shrine that is this man. I let out an almost audible moan as I stand lusting for all the things I want to do to him. Matt pulls me back in tight, holding me close against him, laughing against my ear. “Like what you see, Claire?” I’m busted. I’ve got drool stains all over the front of my shirt, no doubt. Hell, yes. “It’s all right,” I shrug, but can’t help the nervous giggle that escapes my dumb-ass self as I’m caught. “I think you do. Better yet, I know you fucking do and I know I affect you still, even now.” “Jesus, Matt. Okay, yes, I guess you’re still kinda hot and maybe you do affect me just a little bit.” I give him an impish grin. “Thank Christ for small miracles. And for the record, I can smell that it’s more than ‘a little’.” “Matt!” I shove at his chest, feigning embarrassment. If it were anyone else I might have been, but not with Matt. No, with him I’ve only ever been comfortable, been myself. Matt takes the remote off the bar, turning up Keith Sweat’s “Nobody”, the sound pumping through the speakers. “Dance with me.” It’s not a request, but a command. Holy shit. This is happening. Matt Bishop, my Matty, is standing here, holding me tight in his arms after two years. There’s so much I need to say, want to say. But in this moment it’s obvious that words aren’t required, that this is what we both need from each other. Matt’s lips hover over mine. “Can I kiss you now, Claire?”
