​It’s been a long time since I’ve felt like a little fish in a big pond, and when you add a new relationship to the mix, overwhelming would be an understatement.
Josh continues, “Skyler can be a bit needy, and she’s unfortunately crazy about you. Don’t forget, she doesn’t understand much more of our world than what her Cosmopolitan magazine tells her. Her head stays buried in her textbooks.” He pauses, as if thinking over his previous words before adding sharply, “And it should stay that way. She has a really bright future, and I don’t want her sidetracked.”
My eyes waver as I digest the comment, and I know that mentioning that I somehow got Skyler involved in an impromptu photo shoot with Giovanni Vigilucci might not be the best of ideas, at least not now. Though, I’m sure I will have to eventually.
Guilt finds a way to creep into my gut. I’m fully aware that since I got together with Skyler she studies less than before, and I in no way want to jeopardize her incredibly bright future—but a doctor? Have I ever pictured her as a physician, taking temperatures and examining wounds? My lips curl upward at a naughty memory of playing doctor with her just recently, but that was anything but academic.
 Where, or how do I picture Skye?
 With me, of course, but what about everything else? 
I get serious, my voice brusque. “I have no intention of distracting her from her goals, trust me.”
Josh’s visible jaw clench insinuates that he’s said enough on the topic. “You know I want to be supportive of you two, right?”

My reflexively knitting brow is anything but accepting. “Um, call me crazy, but I highly doubt that.”

“Dude, of course I do. I know you know about Skyler’s previous boyfriend, and I know your history with breaking hearts. Let’s consider this the first step of us being okay. The only reason I get so riled up by the whole thing is because Skyler can be fragile. When she loves, she loves completely. She never does anything halfhearted. She’s been that way since we were kids. On top of that, her overanalyzing will destroy her. I just hope that you’re in it to win it, that’s all. Don’t half-ass this.”
“In it to win it?” I repeat, finding the words odd.
 “Whatever. You know what I mean.”

I guess I do. I pull in a deep breath and peer at the empty seat to my left, wishing Skyler were there just so I could reach out and hold her hand, and then throw in a teasing comment to instigate my favorite reassuring Skyler smirk.
The strangest and best part about being in a relationship are those moments when I just miss Skyler. Those heart-pounding moments when I want to touch her, to feel her skin against my fingertips, to know she’s safely within arm’s reach. It never fails to pull the fractured pieces of me back together, while at the same time cause my heart to beat in a fevered frenzy. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that way about someone before. It’s so powerful and all-encompassing. No matter how irrationally terrified it makes me, I still love the adrenaline rush of love, and I never thought I would, but Skyler makes it worth it. Love is a beautiful agony of pain and pleasure, happy and sad, sweet and sour, and I want it all with Skyler.

This was a really eye-opening read! It's a realistic prediction of what our society might become in the very near future that is almost scary! With a completely original storyline, I was completely absorbed from the very first page and found myself unable to put this amazing book down! With society brainwashed by technology and the vestals brainwashed by purity, it was enthralling to watch them meet on middle ground with Blanca and Seth. I loved going on the journey while Blanca discovered feelings and how to think for herself after much trial and error. The romance between her and Seth was sweet throughout all the road bumps. The writing was exquisite with lots of attention to emotional detail and the complexity of the society was extremely well thought out!  This was an incredibly great story of self-discovery that will make you pause and think about the world around you and what we may become!

 This was an absolutely awesome book!! The storyline was completely original and the visualization of the dystopian world is just amazing! The attention to detail was so meticulous that I could vividly see everything in my head and I kept thinking- this would make an awesome movie!! The characters were incredibly complex and absolutely original with palpable emotions. I was drawn in from the very first page and was absolutely enthralled all throughout. With non-stop action and plenty of eye-opening plot twists, there's not a single dull moment  in this whole book! The different characters and creatures were so awesome with just the right amount of creepiness to give me a delicious shiver of thrilled pleasure. This book is seriously awesome and I'd recommend it to anybody who likes sci-fi, thriller, dystopian, action or just a really good read! They definitely need to make an epic movie out of this one!

Riana put on her tennis shoes and left for the gym. When she entered, Kyra sat in the middle of the mats with her legs crossed, drinking a bottle of Voss water.
“Come on, Martin, let’s get this over with,” Kyra said.
Riana’s stomach somersaulted. What Kyra probably meant was, “Come on in. Let me beat you down so I can go home.”
“Are you still undefeated?”
Kyra’s eyes narrowed. “Yeah, why? You plan to change that?”
Riana squared her shoulders. If she let Kyra know how nervous she was, or how much she despised fighting, it’d only make her draw this out longer. Fear seemed to boost her ego. When it came to fighting ability, Kyra’s tenacious ego needed no extra fuel. Riana pinned her with a determined stare. “I guess we’re about to find out.”

He loved how breathless she was. No other woman ever responded as honestly to him as she did. He could trust her body even if he didn’t trust the rest of her. Oh, she wouldn’t mean to hurt him. He actually believed that, but she would choose her world. She would choose her family over him. He could keep her for a little while.
“What am I going to touch you with, princess?” He moved slowly, letting his hands find the warm skin under her shirt.
“Your hands.” Her head fell back against his chest. Without heels on she didn’t quite reach his shoulders. “I want your hands everywhere, Case. They feel so good.”
“I will touch you everywhere, but that’s not all I’ll do.” He was right under her breasts. This was one of the things D/s had taught him. Sex required discipline. Patience. Control. He wanted to shove her on that bed and force his dick inside her, but that wouldn’t make it good for her. Paired with a cheerful volunteer nurse, Blaire is enthusiastic about the possibilities, but is quickly discouraged when she encounters the nefarious nature of the staff and the deplorable conditions of the facility and the children.
Upon arrival, one of the children informs Blaire, “There’s something in the basement.” It isn’t long before strange things begin happening, including Blaire’s flashbacks of the accident that killed her parents. The children soon suffer injuries that Blaire, first, fears may be the deeds of the callous workers but she soon thinks the abuse may originate from a source that is less than human, something unwanted.
The unwanted is coming but in order for Blaire to fight it, she must dig into St. Sebastian and herself in search of truth. Blaire wants nothing more than to help the children, but when she discovers the tragedy that happened in the basement and learns that the same evil forces are still at work, it will be Blaire who needs help…There’s something in the basement.

​Soft scratching echoed through the room and Blaire woke, tossing on the thin mattress. The scratching continued, morphing into whispers some moments, and then hissing the next.
“Rats,” she whispered to herself, solving the facile mystery. She lifted herself and placed her feet into her plush slippers. Through the blur of sleep she looked at them, and then up at the room, realizing they too did not match this place, fur covered and embroidered with a designer logo that reminded anyone who cared. Blaire removed her feet from the slippers and used her toes to send them sailing under the bed. The floor was cold under her naked feet and it felt good.
Blaire cringed at the loud groaning of the bedroom door as she opened it. She looked to Travis who moved just slightly in his bed, nowhere near consciousness. Blaire’s feet began to drag across the hall floor toward the bathroom when she stopped. Down the hall, by the stairs an almost imperceptible whimper called to her. Whimpering gave way to the cry of a baby.
No babies, no babies. There were no babies at St. Sebastian, Marko’s words suddenly came charging toward her. Starting toward the stairs, her feet stopped abruptly. She took a step back as the baby screamed now, the excruciating wails blaring. A forceful trembling started somewhere deep inside her as she watched a tiny pale hand reach up over the top step. Blaire cupped her mouth as the baby struggled to pull its small body up. It was coming for her just like the blood on the basement steps. Then it stood there on chubby little legs, with its arms stretched out at difficult angles. Little dimples dotted the knuckles of its stubby rubber hands. Blaire’s mouth gaped open as the headless body of Dolly made wobbly baby steps toward her.

Surprised at his comment, she softened her stance. “Truly? You believe in what I do?”
“You give me no choice, and I give you none. From this moment forward whenever and wherever you heal, I intend to accompany you as your protector.”

 This was a wonderfully enchanting read! Even though this is the second book of a series, the writer does a very fulfilling job of providing plenty of background information on everybody- making it an easily read stand-alone. I've never read anything set during the Inquisition time period, so I found Wicked Whispers to be extremely original and entertaining! The writing is of superb quality with very intricate details that form an exquisite picture in my mind while reading. The characters were very complex and realistic with very palpable emotions and unique personalities. And the romance was oh-so-spicy yet delivered with an elegance that made every touch and moan classy! I was completely absorbed with this book and found myself unable to put it down! The trials that Sancha faced during that time period were realistic and really made me feel for her. This was a sweeping story of love, lust, trials, and emotions that was beautiful to partake of! I recommend this book to anybody who has an even slight interest in either historical fiction or romance - you won't be disappointed!

​“Damn it, Christina.” He pivoted and stalked across the space between them, backed her against the counter behind her, and set his hands on either side of her. His eyes narrowed, his gaze hot and confrontational. “Go. Home.”
More than a little surprised by his sudden nearness, she swallowed hard, her heart hammering a mile a minute. He was so close, his every breath whispered over her lips, warm, with a slight hint of mint that made her yearn to discover the flavor on his tongue. She ignored the intense desire to close the remaining inches between them and held her ground. This wasn’t about her desire. He needed her, whether he wanted to admit it or not.
She angled her chin higher. “Or what? I’m not afraid of you. You can’t boss me around.”
If he wanted a fight, though, she’d give him one, because she knew him enough to know he would attempt to intimidate her. No doubt in order to get her to leave him alone to his misery. If a subject had anything to do with emotion, he avoided it as if it were a highly contagious disease. She’d never let the tactic work before, and she wouldn’t now.
This time, though, he didn’t do what she expected him to. Rather, his right hand slid into her hair, and before she could blink, he pulled her mouth to his. He didn’t give her a chance to back away, to approve or deny his assault. His kiss wasn’t fleeting, either, or soft and seductive, the way she’d always envisioned. His lips plied hers, tugging and demanding. His tongue stroked the seam of her mouth, a hot slide that had her gasping and opening for him. He took full advantage and swept in, his tongue restless in her mouth.
She whimpered. What she needed to do was push him away. He wasn’t thinking clearly. He was lost in grief. Her body, however, didn’t seem to be listening. His mouth was warm and luscious, and her arms wound themselves around his neck. How many times over the years had she imagined this moment? How many times had she stroked herself to orgasm fantasizing about his hands and his mouth on her body? ​Aftermath is a growing series about war, love, brutality and most of all, survival. What was once the United States has become a savage post-apocalyptic environment where the worst of the worst prosper and the remaining good hide.

The series features a brutal setting, where seven characters in different parts of the United States must adapt to this new environment. The "fight or flight" mentality plays into the story, as the nation is divided into factions fighting for control of the country. The government is outnumbered, outgunned, and forced into hiding as well to recoup their forces. The novel follows a fast paced momentum from the first page to the last word. The plot pits these characters against the elements and each other, with plot-lines intertwining on opposite sides of the war effort. And one character's quest for revenge can jeopardize not only the war outcome, but the reshaping of the entire nation.

With an ever-changing storyline and evolving characters, the Aftermath series gets more intense with every chapter. But what these characters don't realize, the terrifying evil is making its way across the ocean.

“Steady, dude,” Brendon says while kneeling behind Ian. “I got it,” Ian says, steadying his rifle. A deer is picking at a low branch about fifty yards away. Ian lines the deer up in the crosshairs.
“I bet you a bag of chips he misses,” Adam says to Mike. Mike nods as he leans on a tree, holding Fang’s chain.
Fang sits quietly and still.
Ian exhales deeply and then pulls the trigger. The deer looks over at the sound but doesn’t get out of the way in time. The bullet hits the deer in the neck, grounding it.
Ian looks surprised and stands up. He looks back to the guys and points. “You see that?” he says, laughing. Adam looks at Mike, who just shrugs back at him.
Brendon pats him on the shoulder. “Nice shot. Now the gross part.”
“Well, let’s get to it, then,” Ian says while putting his rifle strap around his arm.
They start walking to the deer. “You got him?” Ian asks Mike, who still has a good grip on the dog chain.
“Yeah, he likes me. I don’t know why you have a hard time with him,” Mike says, petting the dog on the head. Ian watches and shakes his head.
“So did you ask her out yet?” Adam asks Ian. “Gonna do it when I get back,” Ian says.
“He’s nervous,” Brendon says quietly to Adam.
“I heard that,” Ian says.
“I know,” Brendon says.
The deer has bled out by the time they walk over there. Its tongue is hanging out. The dog starts to smell the carcass. Mike gives the chain a tug, stopping him.
“Well, I’ll start then,” Brendon says, pulling out a knife.
“Good idea,” Ian says, trying to look away.
“No, pay attention. You’re doing the next one,” Brendon says, pointing the knife at Ian.
Brendon stabs into the deer’s chest and starts cutting down to the stomach.
This is why you do it, Ian thinks, looking on, disgusted.
“Now, the key is to get all the guts out,” Brendon says as he pulls out some entrails. The men cover their noses. The stench of blood and flesh fills the air. The cold air makes the heat from the inside of the deer visible.
