"There are things that go bump in the night, Mr. MacMillian. It's my job to bump back."

Private detective Jesper MacMillian is sure he's seen it all. Following a long recovery after a horrific accident, his life is finally the way he wants it- or at least, close enough. The only monsters on his radar are the ones that keep him awake at night. When a grief-stricken couple begs him to find their lost son, it seems like just another day at the office.

Lena Alan is your friendly neighborhood medium. She sees ghosts, she talks to ghosts, and when necessary, she keeps them from interfering in the world of the living. A city like San Francisco has more than enough ghosts to keep her busy, but a shocking visitation puts her on a collision course with MacMillian and his newest case.

Before MacMillian can brace for impact, Lena drags him into a world where monsters aren't just real, they're hiding in plain sight. A deadly threat is lurking in San Francisco's dangerous underbelly, and it's going to take both of them to put it down.

For Lena, it's another day at the office.

For MacMillian, it's the beginning of the end of everything he thinks he knows.

This is one the most well-written urban fantasy novels I have ever read! It's a flawless blend of a detective mystery meets the paranormal underground! The storyline was absolutely unique, the descriptions were vivid and realistic, the dialogue was spot-on flawless and the characters were intricately complex! This book wastes no time and immediately jumps into action that might be a little gory for some people, but I absolutely loved it! The characters were so complex and I felt like I actually connected with them. I completely fell in love with MacMillian and Lena! This book was so descriptive and flowed so smoothly, it was like a movie! There was quite a few things left hanging at the end that left me holding my breath and grabbing the next book in this series!

                                                The Horse List
                                                 by Anna Lores
                              genre- Erotica, Suspensful Romance

Picture
Recently divorced from an abusive husband still intent to control her, Ava Black has two weeks before she moves back to her conservative hometown.

Encouraged by her best friend, she resurrects the wish list she started as a young girl when her number one desire was her very own horse. Over the years, The Horse List had become a mature list of her most erotic fantasies and a symbol of her rebirth as an independent woman. She can complete some of the items alone, but not everything. She needs an experienced partner with resources and the connections to places she's only dreamed of going.

Could the handsome and wealthy artist Eric North be the partner she seeks? Will her drive to complete the list be enough to overcome her fear of him discovering the scars left from years of abuse? Will Eric protect her from her ex-husband, or will she go home to start over and give up her one chance to complete The Horse List?

Reader Alert! Ava explores the depths of her passion and embarks on a personal journey to fulfill the naughty fantasies of her personal Horse List. For most of the list, one partner is required, but for one special evening, she'll need a third.

Be warned: Reading The Horse List will ignite the fire inside you, compelling you to surrender to your own Eric North - and experience the pulse pounding, heart-stopping release that is sure to follow.

I absolutely loved this book! Immediately, I was drawn into this dark tale of an abused woman's journey of self-discovery. I absolutely fell in love with Ava and her damaged personality. She's like a rose with a few tattered petals- gorgeous, fragile and beautiful inside with some jagged edges striving towards complete beauty. It was quite a challenge choosing which steamy hunk in this book to enjoy the most! The storyline was incredible, the characters were incredibly complex and the love scenes were downright sizzling! There's quite a few dark twists in this story to leave me gasping and hanging on with white knuckles in anxiety. This book left me dreaming for my prince Eric, or Brady, or Nathan....jeez can I have all of them?! There was quite a bit of a cliffhanger at the end that left me racing to go start reading the sequel- The Horse List Challenge- immediately! I might need to go start my own Horse List now.....

By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes...
It's not easy being a witch. Especially when you're the youngest and least talented of four sisters. But Persephone Gosse manages the same way she manages her Duluth bar, Toil & Trouble.
With hard work, a smart mouth—and a lot of whiskey.
Seph likes her quiet life...as quiet as it can be when the king of the bears wants her as his queen, a werewolf (or three) wants her dead, and her cold-as-ice ex, Jack Frost, wants...
Well, she hasn't quite figured that out yet.
But with a bounty on her head and time running out on a half-forgotten prophecy, Seph better get a clue before this witch's brew blows up in her face.
*This book is the first of a three book serial*

What an awesome read! I was completely absorbed reading this book! The storyline is original , the action is plentiful and the characters are very well developed. I loved the snarky humor threaded throughout and how everything is kept somewhat lighthearted and fun during the whole book! With tons of magic, some shifters, a lot of drinking and a few spicy scenes that melted the frost off the windows, this book had a little bit of everything that I desired! Absolutely fun and captivating! I can't wait to read the sequel!!

*I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!

                                 Nobody's Goddess
                             (Never Veil Series, Book 1)
                                 by Amy McNulty
                             genre: YA fantasy romance

About the Book:

In a village of masked men, magic compels each man to love only one woman and to follow the commands of his “goddess” without question. A woman may reject the only man who will love her if she pleases, but she will be alone forever. A man must stay masked until his goddess returns his love—and if she cannot or will not love him, he remains masked forever. Where the rest of her village celebrates this mystery that binds men and women together, 17- year-old Noll is just done with it. She has lost all of her childhood friends as they’ve paired off, but the worst blow of all came when her closest companion, Jurij, finds his goddess in Noll’s own sister. Desperate to find a way to break this ancient spell, Noll instead discovers why no man has ever loved her: she is in fact the goddess of the mysterious lord of the village, a Byronic man who refuses to let Noll have her right as a woman to spurn him and who has the power to fight the curse. Thus begins a dangerous game between the two: the choice of woman versus the magic of man. The stakes are no less than freedom and happiness, life and death—and neither Noll nor the veiled man is willing to lose.

My Thoughts

This book is unlike any other! The storyline is completely new and original and absolutely unpredictable! Every time I thought I had it figured out, a plot twist would come out of nowhere and take me on a new spin. I was completely enraptured and found myself unable to put down the book until I finished it- I just had to find out what would happen next! While slightly confusing at first, once you grasp the world and it's "normal" daily life, it's absolutely absorbing. The concept is completely unique and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

                          Jack and The Magical Beanstalk
                                  by Pablo Michaels
                          genre - M/M Fantasy Romance

About the Book

In this adult fairy tale young, awkward, young Jack sells their prize cow Pearly White for magical beans to a strange man in a red bikini. Little does Jack’s mother, Lorene, know that the beans grow into a giant, magical beanstalk, high above the clouds?

Jack ascends the beanstalk to a land where a Giant Slave serves his larger Master, Jack begs Slave for food to satisfy his hunger from his long journey. But Jack finds Master hoarding treasures.

Attempting to escape the wrath of Master and Slave with the treasures, Jack encounters a handsome, engaging normal sized human man. Sam lives with others that live naturally without clothing deep in the forest. As Jack ages he becomes a handsome man, just like his father, attracting many men, including the two farmhands, Zeke and Adam.

Even though Jack has enabled the farm to prosper with the treasures he stole from Master and is met with increasing danger, he climbs the magical beanstalk again and again to find more treasures and pursue Sam.

My Thoughts

A fascinating M/M love story is interwoven with pieces from the original fairy tale to create a one-of-a-kind new "bedtime" story for adults. With exquisite detail of encounters that left my mouth salivating, this was a nice, spicy story that sent me off to heights higher than the magical beanstalk! This was a refreshingly nice re-telling with a very, very adult twist to it! Not for the faint of heart!

Slumber by Christy Sloat

                                         Slumber
                             (Slumber Duology, Book 1)
                                    by Christy Sloat
                                  genre- YA Fantasy

About the Book

Not all princesses get their happily ever after...
They tell me I killed my boyfriend Phillip in cold blood. I stabbed him twenty one times. I’m only seventeen years old, and I am serving life in Spindle Ridge Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
I don’t remember killing him, so it’s really hard to believe I’m capable of murder. In fact I don’t remember anything before I came to Spindle Ridge, not even my boyfriend.
I can only grasp onto my realistic dreams while the madness of the asylum threatens to pull me under. I dream I’m a beautiful princess and there is an evil faerie named Maleficent who is bent on my destruction. The dreams are the closest thing I have to memories of my life, except they aren’t real.
I’m crazy. I’m not a princess.
They’re the mad illusions of an irrational teenage girl, right?
They’ve assigned me a new doctor, and she says I can trust her, and that she’ll help me see the truth of who I really am.
When she arrived she brought a new patient, Sawyer, who is everything Spindle Ridge isn’t: exciting, mysterious and beautiful. He promises he’s here to rescue me. Trusting either of them frightens me.
Could it be possible that my dreams are more than just the imaginings of a delusional girl? Could they be truth?

My Thoughts

I was absolutely caught up in this alternate take on a classic fairy tale! From the very beginnings, you're thrown into a dark asylum that's completely believable. As the story progresses, it's like a flower blooming! What starts as a dark bud, slowly grows and blooms, layer by layer into a full blossomed climax. While not a pretty story with a perfect ending, the writing was very detailed and descriptive. The characters were very complex and just kept building the whole time. I loved uncovering each new layer of the story! I was absolutely enthralled by this enchanting new version and can't wait to read the sequel soon!

Borrowed Magic by Sheri Lambert

Picture

                                 Borrowed Magic
                                by Sheri Lambert

About the Book

After a three-year siege, Lord Kern, the dark mage, is dead. Magic has left Tredare, and life is almost back to normal.

For everyone except Maren, that is.

Before the siege, an attack by Lord Kern left Maren near death and with a sliver of magic buried deep inside her. Now, for reasons Maren doesn’t understand, that magic has been triggered, giving her the ability to “see” the truth: that her world is nothing more than a magical façade; and that the kingdom’s hero may not be a hero at all.

But this gift of sight comes at a high cost. Maren is in constant pain, and fears her own death is imminent. Plus, no one believes her suspicions that another Dark Mage has risen, and that Tredare may be in just as much danger as it was when Kern was alive.

With the country’s future in the hands of a man who’s vowed revenge on its king, Maren must convince someone else of the truth. Unfortunately, the only person powerful enough to help is also the one man she can’t trust; the man she almost married; the man who abandoned her and disappeared for three years: Kern’s son.

As Tredare crumbles around them, Maren must persuade him to help - before the king is murdered by the very hero he reveres; and before the same magic that gives Maren the gift of sight also takes her life.

My Thoughts

After reading Siege, the prequel novella, I was readily primed for this captivating story. Fast paced and full of emotions and action, I found it very hard to put down for even a few moments. The writing was excellent and Sheri Lambert weaves a tight spell around you with her story of magical will. The characters are very well thought out and you can physically feel the emotions of the main character, Maren, and all the trials and angst that she endures. It was very easy to visualize everything in my head with the very detailed descriptions throughout the entire book. With plenty of action, a dash of romance and a generous scoop of magic, I was completely enthralled by this marvelous book! I can't wait to read more of Sheri Lambert's work!

                            (Prequel to Borrowed Magic)
                                 by Sheri Lambert

About the Book

For six years, peace has reigned over the kingdom of Tredare. Lord Kern, the dark mage who murdered the king and queen eight years prior, is imprisoned in a magical tomb.

Or so everyone thought – until one night when Kern appears during a ball at the royal castle, and life in Tredare changes for the worst.

Especially for innocent Maren.

Unbeknown to her, Maren’s father has a past history with Kern, and now she’s crossed Kern’s path, getting in the way of something he wants. Angry and boiling with dark magic, Kern vows to destroy those who dare defy him – including Maren, who protects the current King and Queen.

Despite Maren’s best efforts, Kern lays siege to Tredare for three years. Years Maren spends plotting revenge on the man who’s determined to ruin Tredare.

My Thoughts

Fast paced and heavily intriguing, I was immediately ensnared by this book! As the prequel to the upcoming full length Borrowed Magic novel, an inevitable cliffhanger awaits at the end. I feel like I just barely got to know the characters and storyline before it was over and I'm just itching to read the full book now! This is a wonderful little appetizer to a marvelous book!
